Hi! I'm Sarah, and I inherited my grandpa’s sweet tooth.
There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t treat myself to something sweet. Or, to be more specific, something sweet and chocolatey.
Nothing makes me happier than walking into a warm, cozy bakery, windows steaming, smelling vanilla and butter wafting through the air, and seeing a bakery case overflowing with scratch-made cookies & bars & cakes … oh my! Seriously, I want to move right in.
And not only do I love to surround myself with baked goods. I love to make them, as well. For me, there is no better way to show someone you care than to present them with a homemade treat!
For as long as I can remember, my dream has been to open a bakery. I feel fortunate that I knew what I wanted to do in life. And I feel even more fortunate that I was able to realize my dream. From 2011 - 2018, I was the founder and owner of Treat Bake Shop, an artisan producer of spiced & candied nuts, which we sold to specialty grocers and cheese stores around the country. We also introduced “Cookie Friday” (and were awarded best cookies in Milwaukee – woohoo!!!) and created the cutest cookie bike you’ve ever seen. In 2018, I sold the business to the very capable team at Quince & Apple.
For those interested, a little more of my food/baking CV includes (in no particular order): cooking classes at The Natural Gourmet Institute in NYC, pastry school at L'Ecole de Patisserie Francaise in Uzes, France, Associate Editor at Cuisine at Home magazine and Executive (Web) Editor at Taste of Home magazine, pastry chef at Lombardino’s in Madison, WI, contract food columnist for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, author of A Cook’s Journey to Japan (which Gwyneth Paltrow listed as one of her favorite cookbooks! OMG!!!!!). I also have a Master’s in Library & Information Science with an emphasis on culinary collections and food research.
I guess all of this is to say that I Really. Like. Baking.
I hope you enjoy all that I’m excited to share with you!
